かつて東洋のベニスと称されていた堺市は海外との交流は盛んで、アセアンとの交流のその一つです。地元の大学として羽衣国際大学のその中で大きな役割を果たしています。
コロナの関係で実現できなかった「アセアン映画フェスタ」が今年は4年ぶりに開催されることに。今年は、タイとインドネシアの映画が上映されました。
14日は、インドネシア映画界を牽引するリリ・リザ監督2作品を上映するとともに、上映後にはオンラインで監督とのトークライブが行われました。急遽、先輩で恩師でもある 村上清身 羽衣国際大学名誉教授の代役としてモデレーターを務めることになりました。
大勢の堺市民と共にジャングル・スクールを鑑賞し、この映画を中心にリリ監督と話し合いをいたしました。リリさんは、題材として文化・人道などを大事にされている監督でもあります。そんなこともあって映画の内容についてはもちろんですが、例えば「”唯一神への信仰”を謳われるインドネシア建国理念のもとで、果たして国の中の多様性を保つことは出来るのか」や「多文化国家インドネシアからこれからますます「多文化」化が進むといわれる日本対しての言付けは何か」などをについてお話をお伺いしました。
今回は偶然この場にいることになったが、私にとっては貴重なご縁となりました。心より感謝いたしました。
“Sakai City, once referred to as the Venice of the East, has been actively engaged in international exchange, particularly with the ASEAN region. Playing a significant role in this exchange is Hagoromo International University, a local university.
Due to the impact of the pandemic, the ‘ASEAN Film Festival,’ which couldn’t be realized earlier, is now being held after a four-year hiatus. This year, films from Thailand and Indonesia were featured.
On the 14th, two films by director Lili Reza, a leading figure in the Indonesian film industry, were screened. Following the screenings, an online talk live session with the director took place. I had the honor of serving as a moderator, stepping in for Professor Kiyomi Murakami, an esteemed senior and mentor at Hagoromo International University.
Together with a large audience of Sakai citizens, we watched ‘Jungle School’ and engaged in discussions with Director Lili, focusing on this film. Director Lili is known for valuing themes such as culture and humanity. We discussed not only the content of the films but also broader topics, such as whether diversity can be maintained within the framework of Indonesia’s founding principle of ‘faith in the one God.’ We also explored the implications for Japan, which is said to be increasingly moving towards ‘multiculturalism.’
While my presence in this situation was coincidental, it became a valuable connection for me. I express my sincere gratitude.
